Liu Zhenya: Construction of UHV grid is the key

On July 24, Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China, Party Secretary Liu Zhenya and President of the Korea Electric Power Corporation Zhao Huanyi exchanged views on issues of common concern and expressed that they will further deepen cooperation and promote mutual benefit.

Liu Zhenya introduced China's energy resource endowments and electric power development status, and pointed out that the key to transforming energy development mode with electricity as the center lies in the construction of UHV power grids. He said that UHV AC/DC transmission technology is revolutionary and has milestone significance. It is not only of great importance for solving China's domestic energy development issues, but also can be used to build a transnational transcontinental grid, which will optimize global energy allocation and ensure energy security. The promotion of clean energy development has brought about important changes. He said that in the absence of a primary energy source in South Korea, the two sides can consider deepening cooperation in the field of UHV power transmission on the basis of existing cooperation to better solve the Korean energy issue.

Zhao Huanyi said that the State Grid Corporation of China has the world's largest power grid system and the world's leading power grid technology. It has significant influence in the world energy field and is worth learning from the Korea Electric Power Corporation. He said that South Korea's power shortage is serious and the price of electricity is relatively high. In the long run, building a super power grid in northeast Asia and promoting Sino-Korea networking will have far-reaching implications for solving Korea’s energy and power development issues. The State Grid Corporation of China and the Korea Electric Power Corporation have long-term friendly relations of cooperation and hope that both parties can carry out in-depth exchanges and cooperation in UHV transmission technologies and smart grids in the future.
