"Visible Light Communication" has attracted much attention as a new communication technology using LEDs, and is now entering a practical stage. LAMPSERVE, a venture company in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, will begin the world's first outdoor demonstration experiment in September and set about establishing high-speed communication technology. If the development is successful, it will be expected to show its talents in African and Asian emerging market countries where communication infrastructure is scarce.

It is reported that LAMPSERVE has found a cooperative enterprise in the local area, and the basic technology and hardware provided by Japan. Estonia is responsible for the development of software, and finally successfully developed a transceiver for visible light communication in Estonia.

LAMPSERVE President Feng Gengyi Lang said that at present, a street lamp can cost about 100,000 yen to lay communication transceivers. It is said that the communication speed usually ensures about 100 megabits per second.

LAMPSERVE has patented the technology for visible light communication outdoors in May this year. It is scheduled to be tested in Estonia in September, followed by an empirical test in Okinawa Prefecture.

LAMPSERVE envisions the use of street lights as one of the tools for visible light communication. That is, the LED is installed on the street light to have the communication function at the same time. It has been confirmed by the data that visible light communication can be performed in units of about 200 meters. The idea of ​​LAMPSERVE is to use street lights as an infrastructure to realize high-speed communication.
