On September 28th this year, the multiplayer action fighting game "Stick Fight: The Game" (hereafter referred to as "Stick Fight") was released on Steam, bringing a new and exciting way to play with friends online.
Similar multiplayer games like "Move or Die," "Speed Runners," and "Gang Beasts" have also been popular, but none have brought me the same level of joy as "Stick Fight." In my previous article, "This is the Police," I outlined my definition of a great game: besides being designed for hardcore gamers to achieve ultimate gameplay, the best games should be accessible and enjoyable for the majority of players, even those with little gaming experience. It's like going to the theater—anyone can enjoy the movie without needing prior knowledge.
"Stick Fight" fits this definition perfectly. It’s a simple, fast-paced, and highly entertaining multiplayer game that anyone can pick up and enjoy.
**Simple Gameplay**
For a multiplayer game to go viral, it needs to have clear and easy-to-learn rules. Otherwise, even if someone loves the game, the high learning curve could prevent them from inviting friends in. "Stick Fight" has extremely straightforward rules: the last player remaining in the visible area wins. If you fall out of view, you're out. The game also features unique mechanics for determining visibility—like how falling off the bottom means you’re truly out, while the sides allow for some hiding space.
The controls are equally simple: use the keyboard to move left, right, up, and down, switch weapons, and the mouse for attacking and defending. This simplicity makes it easy for anyone to jump in and start playing immediately.
**Highly Recognizable Visual Design**
One of the standout features of "Stick Fight" is its visual design. The game uses a minimalist style, with characters and weapons presented as silhouettes. This helps players quickly identify enemies, their positions, and available items—especially important in fast-paced matches with only four players.
The color scheme is simple, making it easy to distinguish between players. Weapons are also clearly designed, with minimal details that focus on functionality rather than aesthetics. This design choice not only enhances recognition but also keeps the game accessible and focused on the core gameplay, rather than distractions like complex character customization.
**Dynamic Terrain and Random Weapons**
"Stick Fight" offers a variety of themed maps, including forests, deserts, factories, castles, winter landscapes, lava fields, and more. There are over 20 different weapons, such as revolvers, shotguns, rocket launchers, and even teleswords. Each weapon has specific drop locations, and some maps restrict which weapons can appear. Weapons spawn randomly at set intervals, adding an element of surprise and strategy.
What I love most about this randomness is how it keeps every match fresh and unpredictable. Even the strongest players can be caught off guard by a lucky weapon drop or a tricky terrain layout. It levels the playing field and ensures no two games are ever the same.
**A Typical Session**
Midday already...
The gun is me...
This picture I can...
Look at my grenades...
...
Before our friendship ended, I had to shout from the heart:
"Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot!"
