The last time we followed trends and shared our desktop setup, we received a ton of encouraging feedback. I had been thinking about when I’d share my portable gear. Let me introduce some of the essentials I carry with me daily.
I’ve always admired how teachers manage their EDC, especially since they often juggle a lot of responsibilities. Although my home is only a ten-minute walk from school, I still prefer to keep things organized. Besides books and assignments, I don’t carry much else—no backpack necessary!
One of the items I couldn’t do without is my MICHAEL KORS Odin backpack. It’s a sleek leather design that’s perfect for everyday use. The price point is pretty reasonable too—originally priced higher but now available for around $149.25, which converts to roughly 1200 yuan. The leather feels durable, and the straps are both leather and nylon, which helps keep the bag cool in the summer. The hardware is well-made, and the zipper glides smoothly. While it doesn’t have multiple compartments, it fits my laptop and a few essentials comfortably. I took this backpack with me on a trip to Hong Kong and Japan last summer, and it held up beautifully. I’m curious to see how long it’ll last me.
For my laptop, I went for the Dell XPS 13-9530. Previously, the school provided an outdated machine that struggled even with basic tasks like opening PowerPoint presentations. After researching options, I decided on the Dell XPS 13 due to its lightweight design and decent performance. I purchased it on eBay during a sale, and even though it wasn’t the absolute lowest price, it offered great value for an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD. It’s been reliable so far, though it lacks some ports like HDMI.
In terms of accessories, I’ve been using a ThinkPad Bluetooth mouse. It’s compact and stores easily in my bag. I also carry a portable power bank, the Anker 3350mAh model, which is small yet powerful enough for my needs.
For entertainment, I have an iPhone 6s and an iPad mini2. The iPhone uses a custom-designed shell that adds a touch of flair. The iPad remains my go-to device for reading and casual browsing.
I also enjoy listening to music on the go, so I invested in a Shanling M2s music player paired with VSONIC GR07 headphones. These provide excellent sound quality, making my daily commutes more enjoyable.
Lastly, I always carry a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses and an umbrella, just in case. The umbrella is surprisingly light at 200g and folds neatly into my bag.
Life is full of constant movement, but having these items by my side makes each day a little brighter. As the saying goes, "money may be a bitch, but it sure can look good." There's nothing wrong with enjoying the finer things in life as long as they bring joy and convenience.
