A British company will launch LiFi electronic dog for 5G data transmission via LED lights

Scottish startup PureLiFi plans to launch its latest Li-Fi product at the 2016 Mobile World Congress. Li-Fi technology was originally invented by Professor Harald Haas, who experimentally proved that he could transmit signals from more than one mobile base station through a light-emitting diode. Subsequently, he and the University of Edinburgh jointly established pureLiFi, dedicated to the development of Li-Fi "optical communication technology."

PureLiFi was formerly known as PureVLC. The company completed a round of more than $2 million in financing in December 2015 to support its growing business and product development needs.

At present, the company will launch a LiFi-X, a LIFI adapter product, which can transmit data through a secure wireless communication-based wireless 5G technology using any LED light .

It is reported that LiFi-X is the third generation of the company. It includes an access point connected to any LED light and a business card sized encrypted electronic dog. The electronic dog can enable mobile devices from any USB 2.0 operating system. The company claims that LiFi-X is more secure than existing Wi-Fi wireless technology and offers users the same web surfing experience.

According to the company, LIFI-X can enable 5G transmission in both indoor and outdoor wireless networks. The data shows that the transmission speed of 5G network has exceeded 25G per second under test conditions, which is about 250 times of the transmission speed of 4G network. The official commercial transmission speed will be about 1G per second, which will be the current speed of 4G network. About a quarter, it will take only 2 seconds to download a HD movie from your mobile phone.

pureLiFi said that the key to the product is to provide 100 times or higher data rate transmission for future mobile users. The company expects that its products will be incorporated into smart home devices in the near future, through LIFI microchip devices.

Harald Burchardt, chief operating officer of pureLiFi, said, "LIFI-X is a key step in the future of wireless communications. The product shows that pureLiFi has made tremendous progress in the past 12 months, creating a complete USB 2.0 dongle driver that is smaller than a credit card. It can be used in parallel with the tablet. Looking forward, LIFI-X will lay a good foundation for future LIFI products and will provide more advanced equipment for our partners."
