Unqualified LED lights will cause cataracts

LED lights are environmentally friendly and energy efficient, but unqualified ones can also hurt the eyes and even cause cataracts. At the "World Metrology Day" held by the Guangzhou Quality Supervision Bureau yesterday, Zhou Lubin, dean of the Guangzhou Institute of Metrology and Testing Technology, said that LED lamps have been popular among the public in recent years due to their long service life and energy saving. However, Zhou Lubin reminded that LED lights that use blue or ultraviolet light are more likely to leak blue or ultraviolet light, and long-term exposure, the chance of cataract will increase, the public should be cautious.

Due to its long service life, energy saving and high economic indicators, LED lamps have been loved by the public and have developed rapidly in the past five years. At present, when people buy LED lights, they tend to consider factors such as aesthetics, lightness, and leakage safety, but they neglect another kind of safety -- "photobiosafety." Zhou Lubin said that it can be understood as "optical radiation". In the spectrum emitted by some light sources or lamps, in addition to visible light, there are ultraviolet light and infrared light. If the process of the light-emitting material is not closed, ultraviolet light or blue light will be transmitted and transmitted. Come out and cause harm to the skin and retina of the human body.

Zhou Lubin reminded the public that the "photobiosafety" inspection of unqualified lamps may cause people to be injured and may also hurt people's eyes. In particular, LED lamps that use blue or ultraviolet light are more prone to the problem of blue light or ultraviolet light that can cause harm to the human body. The long-term use of this light will increase the chance of cataracts, and the public should use it with caution. According to reports, in recent years, there are more and more LED lamp products, but only the export products for photobiosafety testing, there are almost no domestic products, because the country does not include it in the scope of mandatory inspection. Zhou Lubin said that the hospital is conducting biosafety testing, such as LED chemical damage testing, to reduce its damage to human health.

LED underwater lights add that extra sparkle to any pool, pond or water feature. They can be positioned to light that waterfall and with a color filter can change the style and look of any fountain. With the use of a 12/24 volt – low voltage system the fixtures are small and low in profile and provide high lumen at a low cost.
