Machine vision technology eliminates the need for long queues in cashier supermarkets
Tencent Digital (Wen Xin) According to TechCrunch website, machine vision technology will enable any smart phone or tablet computer to recognize objects. Users will no longer have to rely on cashiers and bar code scanners to check out and check out when they check out at supermarkets. TechCrunch Disrupt SF Hackathon project PepperPay applies machine vision technology to the checkout process.

TechCrunch claims that although PepperPay uses Aldebaran's Pepper humanoid robot to demonstrate its technology, a simpler version that can run on the iPad is sufficient to solve the queueing problem.
