Xiaomi’s situation is awkward and he can only find other solutions, because competitors have begun to adopt OLED screens on a large scale, and Xiaomi cannot fall behind.
Vivo and OPPO face the same problem. This year, OPPO originally planned to ship 60 million OLED smartphones. Due to good market sales, the company has now raised its target and plans to ship 90 million to 100 million OLED phones. Last year, OPPO introduced the R7, installed a 5-inch full HD screen, and introduced the R7 Plus, which is equipped with a 6-inch full HD screen. In March of this year, OPPO released the F1 Plus and installed a 5.5-inch full HD OLED screen. OPPO did not sell R7 phones in the US because it could not get enough OLED screens.
In the past, OLED screens were only used on flagship phones, and now they are spreading to mid-range products, which eventually leads to the growing demand for OLED screens by Chinese companies. According to the IHS report, only 21 smartphones used OLED screens (except Samsung) in 2014, and increased to 50 in 2015. OPPO, Vivo, Huawei, Meizu, Micromax, Xiaomi, Hisense, Konka and Hewlett-Packard will launch OLED phones this year. Install a rigid or flexible OLED screen.
At the beginning of this year, Samsung has begun to invest huge amounts of capital to increase production capacity. The main reason for investing is to meet the needs of Apple. In the next period of time, the supply of OLED screens will still be very tight.
Industry experts believe that this year Samsung will complete the second phase of investment, when the A2 production line (production of 5.5 generation hard OLED screen) can produce 20,000 more screens per month, A3 production line (production of 6 generations of flexible OLED screen) can produce 30,000 more Piece. At present, the production capacity of A2 is 1.5 million, and the A3 is only 15,000. Before next year, Samsung will continue to invest more. Once the 8th to 11th investment is completed, Samsung can turn the L7-1 LCD production line into an OLED production line, producing 190,000 hard OLED screens per month and flexible OLED screen production capacity. It will also increase by 130,000. According to the plan, Samsung's investment will continue until 2018, when the flexible OLED screen monthly capacity can reach 180,000.
An industry insider said: "Samsung Display has no way to meet the needs of all customers, it must take into account that the market may decline, and then reduce the operating rate of the device.
