Foreword

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is a Chinese wonder that shares the same name as the Great Wall. It has a history of more than 2,500 years. Crossing the ancient canal section of Wuxi City, the Wuqiao River passes through the Xishui Pier and the South Gate to the Qingming Bridge. This is about 6 kilometers long and has the most Jiangnan water town style. The Qingming Bridge is located at the intersection of the ancient canal and the Boao Port outside the South Gate. It is the best spot in the Wuxi section of the ancient canal.

Starting from the canal, Wuxi ancestors lived on the Weihe River. Because the river was set up in the city, the river was a living. It has nurtured the unique Jiangnan Canal water culture.

The ancient houses on both sides of the ancient canal are high and low, and the piers are staggered. During the day, people are facing the window, the boathouse is screaming at night, the back of the light shadow is washed out, and the front door is on the street bridge. It is a folk painting with a "man's pillow."

Wuxi Qingmingqiao Historic District is the only preserved ancient canal section of the Grand Canal. It is not only the soul and core of Wuxi, but also an important part of the historical features of the ancient canal.

With the goal of “water town customs”, the scenic spot will create a historical block with a rich cultural heritage integrating temples, towers, rivers, streets, bridges, kiln, houses, squares, buildings and pavilions.

First, the scope of design

The design scope is the second phase of the ancient canal landscape reconstruction project, which mainly includes the residential buildings on both sides of Nanchang Street, the west side of the canal, the Jintai area and the Yongtai area.

Targeted lighting design for buildings, blocks, greenery and ancient canal landscapes in the scenic area. At the same time, it effectively coordinates with the completed lighting landscape of the first phase to create a unique nightscape landscape of the ancient canal and enhance the quality of urban lighting in Wuxi.

Second, regional culture analysis - "Jiangnan Shui Nongtang, canal out of print"

The ancient canal of Xinghua Chunyu was once the spiritual hometown of countless Chinese literati. The historical details of the "Qingming Canal Map, Jiangnan Bo'ao Port", with its aesthetic temperament and poetic spirit beyond utilitarianism, have enriched and inspired the infinite imagination space and huge creative potential of literati.

Today, with the rapid development of industrial civilization and the accelerating pace of life, we once again appreciate the cultural atmosphere of the ancient canal and read the charm of the canal in the canyon. It is a journey back to the spiritual world.

Shui Nongtang is a unique canal landscape in Wuxi and has become synonymous with Wuxi Canal. Here, the dwellings are built according to the water potential, and the white walls and black tiles are elegant and chic; the gardens, “the winding path is quiet, the zen room is deep and the flowers are deep”, “although it is made for people, it is like a natural world”, combining nature and humanity perfectly. It can be described as "one park, the beauty of the world."

There are also various small bridges that connect water and people into one, which is quite a "small bridge, flowing water, and the beauty of others." People living here are elegant, fit, and in harmony with nature. It reflects the richness, grace and freshness of the canal culture.

Third, the vision of lighting design - "exquisite, harmonious, human, innovative, ecological"

Create a unique nightscape lighting landscape of the ancient canal, enhance the quality of Wuxi's urban lighting, and build a green urban lighting system that is “humanized, sustainable, and efficient”, creating an easy-to-use city, driving Wuxi's tourism economy and improving residents' lives. Quality, realizing the artistic lighting landscape of exquisite, harmonious, humanistic, innovative and ecological green.
