LG publishes 15-inch white OLED panel combined TFT process

In the invited paper of LG Display IDW''10 in Korea, an active matrix OLED panel with a 15-inch white O LED panel combined with a WRGB color filter was published (Paper No. OLED3-1). This panel has been published many times before, but this time, the process and component structure of the TFT backplane are introduced in more detail. The TFT element is an SPC (Solid Phase Crystallization) TFT using an infrared RTA (Rapid Thermal Annealing) device, and the substrate size is the fourth generation. The Vth deviation is a standard 6 mV, and the mobility deviation is 0.87%. Compared with the ELA (Excimer Laser Annealing) method, it is suitable for the back plate of the active matrix OLED panel.

Since it is a bottom surface light-emitting method, it is necessary to form R (red), G (green), and B (blue) color filters before forming the anode of the TFT substrate. The LG display indicates that these filters are formed using the same technology as the COT (Color Filter On TFT) technology of the TFT liquid crystal panel. Thereafter, the flattening film having a sufficient thickness is used to protect the filter while ensuring the flatness required for the OLED. Next, an anode is formed on the planarized film, and a white OLED layer is formed by a vapor deposition method.

The structure of the white OLED element is a tandem type in which a combination of an R, a phosphorescent material and a B fluorescent material is as previously disclosed. Compared with the vapor deposition coating method, the viewing angle dependence is slightly prominent. In terms of the viewing angle range defined by Δu''v''<0.02, the "white OLED + color filter" mode is 90 degrees compared to the 130 degree of the overcoat type. In addition, since the power consumption when the standard image is displayed is higher than that of the split coating type, the problem in the future is to reduce the power consumption.
