Blackberry admits that the future belongs to Android and BB 10 says 掰掰

BlackBerry's first Android-powered smartphone, the Priv, is now making waves in the market. (Image: Flip through the official BlackBerry website) For long-time BlackBerry fans, this might be a tough pill to swallow. Recently, a top executive from BlackBerry confirmed that the company is shifting its focus entirely to Android, stating, “The future is Android.” This signals a major turning point for the brand, which once dominated the business smartphone space with its BlackBerry 10 OS. At a recent event in India, Damian Tay, Senior Director of Product Management at BlackBerry Asia Pacific, emphasized that the company has made Android more secure and efficient. He added, “It’s not logical to support two operating systems, so the future of BlackBerry will only be Android.” While current BlackBerry 10 users may breathe a sigh of relief, as CEO John Chen mentioned that BlackBerry 10.3, featuring enhanced security, will still be supported in 2016, the chances of seeing new BlackBerry 10 devices are slim. In fact, according to Chen’s speech at CES 2016, the company plans to launch one or two new smartphones this year — but they’ll all run on Android. With Android's rapid growth and dominance in the mobile market, even Apple’s iOS faces stiff competition. For smaller platforms like Microsoft’s Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10, the challenge is even greater. It’s interesting to note that both Microsoft and BlackBerry have been in the mobile space for years, alongside Nokia, which once stood as a symbol of innovation. These companies’ struggles highlight how difficult it is to sustain success in the ever-evolving tech industry.
