The "2017 Hangzhou Yunqi Conference" officially kicked off today, October 11th. This innovative restaurant is a joint effort between the Ant Financial Lab, Word of Mouth, and Alipay's AR team. Leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology and natural human-computer interaction, customers can enjoy a seamless payment experience by simply scanning a code with Alipay and confirming their identity. Once the meal is over, they can just leave — the system automatically handles the transaction.
On the morning of the 10th, Ant Financial partnered with a local lifestyle service platform to introduce a large interactive touch-screen table that offers features like buffet ordering, personalized recommendations, and pre-dinner games. By integrating Alipay’s facial recognition and real-name authentication, diners can walk out directly after finishing their meal, with the system automatically processing discounts and payments through their Alipay account. Jack Ma himself was seen testing this smart dining table.

According to reports, once a customer is seated, the system automatically identifies them. They can tap the table or use hand gestures to open the smart ordering interface. Based on past consumption data, the system provides tailored food suggestions. Additionally, during the serving process, customers can enjoy engaging AR effects.
Lin Feng, a senior technologist at Ant Financial Lab, told reporters that this project represents an exploration into the future of dining. In the coming years, traditional elements such as paper menus, waiters, and cashiers may disappear. Diners will be able to order and eat at their own pace, without worrying about paying — when they leave, Alipay will automatically handle the payment for them.
While dining is just one aspect of offline payments, Ant Financial aims to expand its efforts in creating more convenient and intelligent experiences. For example, in shopping malls, Alipay is exploring how to gradually eliminate the need for manual payments by using advanced technologies like IoT. This would allow for a smoother, more efficient checkout process. Through partnerships using IoT and AR technologies, consumers can also trace product stories, origins, and more, enhancing their overall shopping experience.
In fact, what Jack Ma experienced was just the “appetizer†of the 2017 Yunqi Conference. The conference, themed “Flying-Smart,†is expected to officially open on the 11th. It will cover a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, big data, new retail, fintech, elastic computing, infrastructure, quantum computing, life sciences, IoT, government affairs, and multimedia. With 20 cutting-edge fields being discussed, it is considered one of the most comprehensive tech conferences in history.
