ADI ADXRS624: Complete Gyro Sensing Solution
ADI's ADXRS624 is a complete angular velocity sensor (gyroscope) using ADI's surface micromachining process. The ADXRS624 integrates all the required electronic components on a single chip, and is fully functional and cost effective. The device is manufactured using the same high-capacity BiMOS process as the high-stability automotive airbag accelerometer. The voltage of the output signal RATEOUT (1B, 2A) is proportional to the angular angular velocity perpendicular to the top surface of the package. The output voltage is proportional to a given reference voltage. An external resistor between SUMJ and RATEOUT can be used to reduce the scale factor. An external capacitor is used to adjust the bandwidth. Other external capacitors are used during operation. The temperature output is used to provide compensation. Two digital self-test inputs excite the sensor by means of a motor to detect if the sensor and signal conditioning circuit are in normal operation. The ADXRS624 is available in 7mm & TImes; 7mm & TImes; 3mm BGA chip scale packages.

EVAL-ADXRS624
The EVAL-ADXRS624 is a simple evaluation board that supports a quick evaluation of the ADXRS624 ±50°/sec yaw rate gyroscope performance. The EVAL-ADXRS624 features a 20-pin, dual in-line (0.3-inch Width & TImes; 0.1-inch lead pitch) interface that eliminates the need for BGA soldering for easy product design.
Figure 2 shows a block diagram of the EVAL-ADXRS624. The numbers shown in the square boxes correspond to the pins on the evaluation board. It is consistent with the application referred to in the ADXRS624 data sheet. The analog and power ground (AGND and PGND) have separate power planes on the evaluation board that can be adjusted to the grounding design required for the application. If used for a single ground plane, these nodes can be shorted. AGND and PGND must be grounded to allow the evaluation board to function properly. Note that the analog supply voltage and charge pump supply voltage (AVCC and VDD) are not connected to the EVAL-ADXRS624 and the user can connect these pins depending on the application.
The component layout on the EVAL-ADXRS624 is shown in Figure 3, and the component list is shown in Table 1. The initial bandwidth of the EVAL-ADXRS624 is set to 10 Hz (COUT = 100 nF). Users can increase external capacitance to further reduce bandwidth and improve noise floor.
