The Gaogong LED Industry Research Institute conducted a survey on the implementation of the 2009 Ten City Wanhao Demonstration Project and found that the life of LED street lamps was less than 5,000 hours. By 2010, this number has reached 10,000 hours. In 2011, the life of LED street lamps can reach 20,000-hours. In terms of light efficiency, it was 60-70 lm/w in 2009 and 80-90 lm/w in 2010, and it can reach 100-120 lm/w in 2011. In terms of the important factors affecting the life of LED street lamps, the stability and reliability of the power supply have also been greatly improved.

At the end of last year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine announced the results of spot checks on road and street lighting products produced by 72 companies. The results showed that 30 products of dozens of companies were “unqualified” and the product qualification rate was as low as 58.3%. Among the “black list” companies are three listed companies, including Goer Acoustics and Topband (strategic partner Ledi Opto is involved).

In view of the current status of LED road lighting, Dr. Zhang Xiaofei, Dean of the High-tech Industrial Research Institute, said that the lack of intelligent level, local protectionism, and lack of standard certification are urgent problems for the LED road lighting industry. He said that especially intelligent control is the future development direction, but it needs perfect system support and overall solution.
