Discussion on op amp noise gain

The concept of noise gain is rarely used in our usual design, because it is usually not very important, and ignoring it does not have much impact on our design, so we rarely consider it. But sometimes we often make mistakes on this issue, then we have to seriously consider it.

Look at a circuit like this:

First of all, when we put both switches to the top, we call it CASE1, and when we dial the following, we call it CASE2. This is what we usually call the in-phase amplification circuit and the reverse amplification circuit.

In the case of CASE1, the signal gain is 1+R1/R2. In the case of CASE1, the signal gain is -R1/R2. The feedback of the two circuits is the same, and the feedback coefficients are all R2/(R1+R2). , so their noise gain is (R1+R2)/R2.

The expression of the gain bandwidth product is GBP=Gn*B, so the bandwidth is the same in both cases. Here we can see that this is very disadvantageous for the inverting amplifier. The signal is amplified by R1/R2 and the bandwidth is reduced by 1+R1/R2 times.

Therefore, when we design the op amp circuit, only the noise gain of the circuit can be considered in the problem of the gain bandwidth product, regardless of the amplification mode of the circuit.

Analysis of analog circuits must recognize: what gain, stability, bandwidth, and so on, are internal factors of the circuit itself, and the input signal is an external factor. So the non-inverting amplifier and the inverting amplifier are actually a circuit, and the bandwidth of the two should be exactly the same. That little difference is another reason. The non-inverting amplifier and the inverting amplifier are normalized to have a so-called noise gain.
