5Gbps Peak Rate Qualcomm Releases X50 Modem

How far is IT168 Information 5G from us, today Qualcomm gave us a definitive answer. At the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit, Qualcomm officially announced its first 5G modem, the X50 5G modem. Qualcomm has also become the first company to announce commercial 5G modem chipset solutions. It is reported that this 5G modem can achieve a peak rate of 5Gbps. It is expected to begin sampling in the second half of 2017, helping operators and terminal manufacturers to take the lead in the deployment of 5G. The first commercial products are expected to be launched in the first half of 2018.

According to an official introduction by Qualcomm, the Opteron X50 5G modem will initially support the operation of millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum in the 28 GHz band. It will use multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology that supports adaptive beamforming and beam tracking technology to achieve stable, continuous mobile broadband communications in NLOS environments. By supporting 800MHz bandwidth, the Snapdragon X50 5G modem is designed to support peak download speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second.

In addition, the Snapdragon X50 5G modem can be paired with an Snapdragon processor with an integrated Gigabit LTE modem, and can achieve initial coverage of the 5G wide-area network through dual connectivity and close coordination to prepare for the transition from 4G to 5G.

In addition, the Snapdragon X50 5G platform will include a modem, SDR051 millimeter wave transceiver and a supporting PMX50 power management chip. The 5G modem is expected to begin sampling in the second half of 2017, helping operators and terminal manufacturers to take the lead in deploying 5G. The first commercial products are expected to be launched in the first half of 2018.
