On the afternoon of March 4th, during this year's two sessions, Xiaomi’s Chairman and CEO, National People’s Congress deputy Lei Jun, submitted two written proposals. The topics focused on the development of the "Belt and Road" initiative, enhancing the global influence of "Made in China," and fostering the growth of the Chinese design industry.

**Encouraging Private Enterprises to Join the Belt and Road Initiative**
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. As the initiative continues to expand and China's economy evolves, it's becoming increasingly important for private enterprises to go global. By offering more products and services to countries along the Belt and Road, Chinese brands can gain greater international recognition and reshape the perception of "Made in China."
Lei Jun proposed establishing an integrated service platform specifically for the Belt and Road. This platform would support private companies as they expand overseas. He suggested that the Ministry of Commerce take the lead in setting up a dedicated "Belt and Road" service center, working with government departments, chambers of commerce, and financial institutions to gather information on overseas projects and create a database for companies to access.
Additionally, he recommended creating "Chinese Manufacturing Brand Ambassadors" in key Belt and Road countries. These ambassadors—local or internationally recognized individuals—could promote Chinese products through cultural exchanges and marketing activities, helping private companies build their global brand presence.
**Focusing on the Development of the Chinese Design Industry**
Over the past four decades, China's manufacturing sector has become a major force globally. However, to continue growing, the industry must also focus on innovation and design. Currently, China's design industry lags behind leading global nations, especially in terms of top talent and infrastructure.
Lei Jun proposed the establishment of a national design promotion agency, prioritizing industrial design in national planning. This would be included in long-term development strategies to support the creative design industry.
He also suggested creating professional design parks in major manufacturing cities, offering tax incentives and other benefits to attract and retain design firms. Additionally, he emphasized the need to invest in design education, from primary schools to universities, and to bring in world-class design talents to boost domestic expertise.
Finally, he called for upgrading China's national design awards to compete on the global stage, aiming to establish a world-renowned award that elevates China's voice in the design industry.
