Determination of Trace Bismuth in Lead-Based Alloy by AA-1800 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
Key words: atomic absorption spectrophotometer; trace bismuth content; analysis instrument; AA1800 This method is designed for the accurate quantitative analysis of trace bismuth in lead-based alloys, where the bismuth content does not exceed 0.003%. Required reagents include nitric acid (1:2 solution), tartaric acid, and high-purity water. The atomic absorption conditions are as follows: wavelength at 223.1 nm, slit width of 0.2 nm, lamp current set to 2 mA, acetylene pressure at 0.06 MPa, air pressure at 0.2 MPa, and burner height adjusted to 5 mm. The procedure involves the following steps: 1) Weigh 2 g (to 0.0001 g) of the sample and place it in a 150 mL beaker. 2) Add 1:2 nitric acid and 2 g of tartaric acid to the beaker. 3) Heat the mixture on an electric hot plate until complete dissolution, ensuring all nitrogen dioxide gas is removed. 4) Cool the solution, then transfer it to a 100 mL volumetric flask and dilute to the mark with purified water. Mix thoroughly. 5) Perform a blank experiment simultaneously, using the same procedure, and analyze the resulting solution using the AA-1800 atomic absorption spectrophotometer. For standard solution preparation: 1) Pipette 0 ml, 0.5 ml, 1.0 ml, and 2.0 ml of the 100 μg/ml bismuth standard solution into separate 100 mL volumetric flasks. 2) Add 2 g of tartaric acid and 5 ml of 1:2 nitric acid solution to each flask. 3) Dilute each to the 100 mL mark with purified water and mix well.
