Forecast: Supply of SCR will stabilize over the next year

The global SCR switching element market was once monopolized by ST and PHILIPS. The Japanese products are premised on self production. At present, the main suppliers of thyristor devices include IXYS, Vishay, ST, NXP, Semikron, Onsemi and others.

Vishay just released 12 new photosensitive thyristor products last month. These devices have a static dV/dt of 5 kV/s, and they are said to be five times higher than the devices provided by other suppliers only next to them.

According to reports, these new phototriacs will be used to isolate low-voltage logic devices from high voltage power networks in industrial systems operating on 120V, 240V, and 380V AC lines. Typical applications include control of resistive, inductive and capacitive loads, including AC motor drives, TRIAC drivers, switching power supplies, programmable controllers, high current thyristors, relays, temperature control devices, and solenoid/valve control equipment. Samples of the new VO4154/6 and VO4254/6 phototriacs are now available in 6-pin DIP packages. The production lead time for production quantities is 6-8 weeks.
