On December 22nd, the 2017 High-tech LED Annual Conference will take place at the Shenzhen Baoan Dunxi Road International Hotel. This year’s event focuses on the theme “The Smoke is Gradually Disappearing and Softening Strength, Tapping into Deep Integration and New Opportunities.†The conference brings together industry leaders, experts, and professionals to discuss the future of LED technology and its evolving role in smart manufacturing.
During the morning session titled “LED Packaging Equipment and Materials Special,†hosted by Xin Yichang, Mr. Zhang Qinglang, Director of R&D at Hyun Shuo Zhi, delivered a keynote speech on “Intelligent Intelligence for Diversified LED Lighting.†In his presentation, he shared insights into the current state of China's LED lighting manufacturing industry and introduced Hyun Shuo Zhi's automation solutions aimed at driving innovation and efficiency.
Mr. Zhang highlighted that the domestic lighting market is currently dominated by labor-intensive, low-end manufacturing with limited value addition and high labor costs. As a result, Chinese manufacturers face increasing competition from countries like India and Thailand. To stay competitive, companies must rethink their production models, embrace technological innovation, and better meet consumer needs.
With the ongoing transformation of traditional manufacturing, intelligent production has become a critical priority for enterprises. Intelligent manufacturing requires not only advanced processes and machines but also seamless communication between systems and departments. Industry 4.0, which spans multiple sectors and industries, demands cross-sector collaboration and gradual development. This integration is essential for achieving long-term growth and competitiveness.

Looking ahead, Mr. Zhang outlined three key trends for the development of LED production line equipment. First, equipment linkage—connecting individual automated machines with enterprise ERP systems via EMS. This enables information integration across the entire production line. Second, moving from isolated automation islands to fully integrated production lines that adapt to new enterprise requirements. Third, the shift toward intelligent production, where flexibility and smart systems become vital. With rising labor costs, investing in smart production lines can significantly improve efficiency and product quality.
In recent years, the pressure on the LED industry has centered around improving efficiency and reducing reliance on manual labor. Since 2013, some Chinese assembly plants have started adopting automated production lines, cutting assembly costs by up to 50%. These systems offer two major benefits: improved productivity and consistent product quality, along with reduced labor expenses.
With the launch of China Manufacturing 2025, the impact of automation is becoming more evident. For example, Hyun Shuo Zhi’s semi-automatic LED bulb assembly line reduces labor by over 70%, while the fully automated version cuts it by more than 90%. Beyond direct cost savings, automation also helps manage indirect costs such as staff management and maintenance, which are easier to quantify. This results in significant savings per unit—up to 0.5 yuan per bulb—and daily savings of at least 9,000 yuan, allowing companies to recoup investment within six months.
Hyun Shuo Zhi emphasizes flexibility and modularity in its automation design. The layout features island-style production lines, where semi-finished products are returned to a central conveyor after each stage. Each station operates independently as a modular unit, enabling quick reconfiguration and adaptation to customer demand. This approach ensures that the production line can easily evolve with changing product designs.
In terms of performance, the double-station semi-automatic line can achieve 1600–1800 pieces per hour, with a stable yield of over 98%. Cost reductions are also notable, with fewer workers required and higher output. This makes the system an attractive option for LED manufacturers looking to enhance both efficiency and profitability.
