Japanese manufacturer of innovative tomato planting uses LED to shorten cultivation time
According to the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) on the 23rd, an electronic device manufacturer in South Satsuma, southwest of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, used LED light to shorten the cultivation time of tomatoes.
Due to the financial crisis, the electronic device manufacturing company reduced its orders to 20%. Since 2011, the company has been involved in agriculture and has begun to use LEDs to grow tomatoes.
The use of LED cultivation can increase the light-receiving rate of tomatoes. It takes only one month from sowing to plant length to 20 cm. Compared with land cultivation, if it is winter half-year, this time is equivalent to a half-time reduction.
The whole cultivation process was first planted in the room next to the greenhouse, and then irradiated with 11,000 red and blue LED lights for 1 month. When the plants grow to 20 cm, they are moved back to the planting greenhouse.
The person in charge of the company said, "This can be cultivated efficiently without being affected by the weather. I hope that it will be promoted to more farmers and businesses in the future." The tomatoes harvested this time will be sold in department stores across Japan.
